Harry S. Mills, 84, passed peacefully June 19, 2011. He leaves his wife of 62 years Marguerite "Margie" (Cove) Mills; Three children, Michael and his wife Susan of Grafton, Carol A. Mills, Margie and her husband Chad Houde both of Millbury; Six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Marion Munger, May Sanborn and Ella Bassett. Mr. Mills was born November 22, 1926 in Auburn the son of the late John T. and Annie (Giles) Mills. He was raised in Worcester and has lived many years in Grafton. Mr. Mills graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School and then enlisted in The US Navy. He was a veteran of World War II serving aboard The USS Ticonderoga fighting in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and was awarded The Philippine Liberation Medal w/ two Bronze Stars and The Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal w/ six stars. Mr. Mills then became a freight delivery truck driver working at Hemmenway Motor Transportation, Jenkins Transportation and Merritt Transportation for a total of 33 years retiring in 1987. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in North Grafton and his memberships and involvements included; The Big T Veterans Association, a life member of Post 92 American Legion in Grafton, a life member of Post 1497VFW South Grafton, a member and past commander Post 9013 VFW Westborough, a Plank Member of The US Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington DC, a member of Local # 170 Teamsters & Truck Drivers AFL/CIO in Worcester. Mr. Mills was also very involved in scouting having been Scoutmaster of Cub Scout Pack 106 & BSA Troop 106 in North Grafton, also a Badge Counselor with Mohegan Council BSA and a recipient of The Order of The Arrow. He also traveled with his wife to many USS Ticonderoga reunions throughout the United States. Harry loved his family and was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle enjoying many good times with all. The family suggests in lieu of flowers you honor and remember Harry with Memorial Donations to Treasure Valley Scout Reservation c/o Boy Scouts of America Mohegan Council, 19 Harvard St. Worcester MA 01609 or to MA Veterans Inc. 69 Grove St. Worcester MA 01605. Funeral & Calling Hours A Prayer Service will be Thursday June 23rd at 10:30 am in THE RONEY FUNERAL HOME 152 Worcester St. North Grafton. He will then be laid to rest with US Navy Honors in Pine Grove Cemetery in North Grafton. All are welcome at calling hours Wednesday June 22nd from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home in North Grafton.
