COLUMBIA - Memorial service for Hazel Funderburg Woods, 96, will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Shandon Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel is assisting the family.
Mrs. Woods died Monday, January 9, 2012. Born in Blackstock, she was a daughter of the late Archie Matthew Funderburg and Mamie Lou Funderburg. She was a career employee in the Hand Bag Department at the Belk Department Store. She was a volunteer at the Providence Hospital. She was a "Beechnut Girl" in the mid-1930's. Mrs. Woods was a former member of the Executive Club of Columbia and the Hammond Organ Society. She was a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church and the Ed Anderson Sunday School class.
Surviving are a son, William I. Woods, of Austin Tex.; grandchildren, Calvin James Woods, of Sullivan's Island, Marlene Woods Hager, of Isle of Palms; four great-grandchildren; nieces, Pam H. DeMeyers and Georgann Hadden, both of Augusta, Ga. In addition to her parents, and her husband, Marion Ashbell Woods, she was predeceased by a son, James A. Woods and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shandon Presbyterian Church, 607 Woodrow Street, Columbia SC 29205.
