Beloved "Mom", Hazel Robinson (Robbie) Mitchell, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Born in Wayne County, West Virginia, December 15, 1923 to the late Haze and Tensie Robinson, she graduated from Chattaroy High School in 1942. By 1943 she graduated from West Virginia Business College and traveled to the nation's capital and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 to serve her country. She shared many passions with her husband and best friend of 56 years. Among them were their children and grandchildren as well as gardening, salt-water fishing and golfing. Her love for the outdoors was reflected in the many wonderful camping adventures the family shared. Her love for gardening was seen in a magnificently manicured yard with vegetable gardens, wonderful roses, and the special plants that she brought to her yard from her Daddy's garden in West Virginia. In the spring their yard exploded with color from hundreds and hundreds of pansies. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed a wide variety of foods, but especially loved anything with her "home-grown" hot peppers (even taking a jar of the extra hot mix to restaurants to add that special something to their meals). She was predeceased by her adoring husband, Paul Michael (Mike) Mitchell; sister, Ruby, and brother, Walker; and is survived by her loving sisters, Retha and Etta and cherished sons, Michael and his wife Jamie of Suffolk, VA and Robert and his wife Jeff of Virginia Beach, VA; 7 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband. She will be deeply missed and remembered always with love and smiles. We love you Mom. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel is handling the services. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
