Heinz Richard Winkelman
“Our Opa”
Heinz Winkelman passed away suddenly on Tuesday August 9, 2011. Heinz was born April 28, 1922 to August and Hedwig Winkelman in Wesenberg, Germany.
After surviving the horrors of WWII, Heinz married Rosie Berger July 3, 1947. In 1954 they immigrated to the US and settled in Salt Lake where Heinz was a machinist for Tool Design. Heinz and Rosie were very proud of their US citizenship yet retained and passed on their German heritage. Heinz attended the 10th East Senior Center daily where he had many friends. He loved music and dancing and enjoyed being part of Snowbird’s Oktoberfest celebration.
Heinz was a member of the LDS church and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosie and grandchild, Scott. He is survived by his children; Herman Stubenvoll of Spokane, WA, Richard (Arlene) Winkelman and Susie (Alan) Bird of Salt Lake. 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His siblings; Erika Zorn, Inge Vandertoolen, and Herman (Judy) Winkelman, and his loving friend Gerda.
Family and friends may gather for a viewing Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., at the Mt. View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 East 7800 South, Salt Lake, Utah.
