     Helen Brandvold, 93, of Breckenridge, MN passed away on Friday, May 16, 2008 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN.  Funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, MN with Pastor Mark Manning officiating.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 6 PM to 7:30 PM at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN.  There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at Pelican Valley Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, MN.

     Helen was born on January 4, 1915 in Burleigh County near Steele, ND to Gilbert and Marit (Kringen) Anderson.  She was baptized in the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Dakota.  At the age of two, Helen?s family moved to Pelican Rapids, MN and she was confirmed at the Pelican Valley Lutheran Church of Pelican Rapids and attended grade school in Pelican Rapids.

     On March 3, 1934, Helen was united in marriage to Otto Brandvold and they moved to Breckenridge, MN.  In 1942 they moved to the West Coast during World War II. In 1947 they moved back to Breckenridge.  In 1949 they moved to a farm near Detroit Lakes, MN where Helen and Otto farmed until he passed away on March 20, 1965.  She stayed on the farm until 1968 when she moved back to Breckenridge where she has since resided in the home that Otto built in 1938.  After she moved back to Breckenridge she worked for the Dietary Department at St. Francis Medical Center from 1974 to 1986.

     Helen was a charter member of Breckenridge Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Rachel Circle and did quilting at the church.  She enjoyed baking, crossword puzzles, cooking, reading, gardening, photography and traveling to see her grandchildren and other relatives.

     Helen is survived by, her daughter, Mary (Richard) Mackenthun, South Beloit, IL; her eight grandchildren Dean (Patty) Schermerhorn, Leslie Schermerhorn, Troy (Larane) Schermerhorn, Sheila Orvis, Jason (Rebecca) Brandvold, Anita (Mark) Rumage, Andrew (Michele) Mackenthun, Alana Mackenthun; her twelve great-grandchildren; her seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-laws.

     She was preceded in death by, her parents, Gilbert and Marit Anderson; her husband, Otto Brandvold; her three children, Hollis, Delores, and Paul; her sister, Myrtle Seidel; her seven brothers, Maurice, Alfred, Stanley, Willmer, Kenneth, Orvin, and Alfred Anderson.

     Pallbearers will be Barry Lund, Andy Mackenthun, Dean Schermerhorn, Jason Brandvold, Harvey Seidel
