Mrs. Helen Louise Feelhaver Mann, 82, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at River Landing at Sandy Ridge under the care of Hospice of the Piedmont.
Born December 18, 1929 to the late Carl T. and Agnes Feelhaver in Creston, Iowa, she grew up in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where her father was the superintendent of schools. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1948 and attended Fort Dodge Community College. While a student at community college, she met Kenneth Gould Mann in chemistry class and they were married June 12, 1949.
One of her "fondest" memories was attending a minor-league baseball game in Minneapolis on the first day of marriage and the start of their honeymoon. To commemorate the event, they "celebrated" the 60th and 61st anniversaries with family in a suite at NewBridge Bank Park watching a Greensboro Grasshoppers game.
While Kenneth attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, Helen attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After Kenneth graduated in 1951, they moved to High Point, where he taught industrial arts at High Point Central High School.
Helen completed her education at High Point College, graduating with an AB in teaching in 1966. For the next 23 years, she taught either third grade or fourth grade in the High Point City Schools at Emma Blair, Fairview, Cloverdale, Tomlinson and Oak Hill elementary schools before retiring in 1989.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, chairman of a Circle group and supervisor of the Primary Department. In addition, she belonged to a bridge club, knitted, was a avid reader, loved strawberry milkshakes, enjoyed traveling and was deathly afraid of snakes.
She was preceded in death by her son, David John Mann and a sister, Mary Ann Secor of Farmington, WI.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Kenneth, of the home; a son, Steve and his wife Cindy of Stokesdale; grandson, Jake Mann and his wife Lauren and their children Chance, Gavin and Willow of Snow Camp; grandson, Josh Mann of Graham; grandson, Jeremy Mann and his wife Jessica and their daughter Emma of McLeansville; grandson, Jonathan Mann of Graham; four nieces and two nephews.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 1 p.m. at River Landing. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to River Landing at Sandy Ridge or to Hospice of the Piedmont. Davis Funerals and Cremations is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at
