Helen Mae Cash Cathey died September 28, 2011 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado at age 94. She was born June 28, 1917 in Camden, Arkansas to Augustus Cash and Alice Smith Cash. She attended Camden High School and then cosmetology school, operating her own beauty salon during the war. In 1939 she married William Marcus Cathey in a ceremony at her mother's home in Camden. Marcus was employed by International Paper Company for 40 years taking them to San Jose, California in 1957. Following retirement in 1978, they moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas, building a home on Lake Hamilton on Rock Creek Road. Together they enjoyed fishing, golfing, and entertaining on the lake until Marcus' death in 1997. In 2009 Helen moved to West Shores Senior Living Community and then this past August she moved to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, to be near her daughter. She was preceded in death by Marcus, and by her sister Hazel Gammill.
She is survived by her son Lyn (Judy) Cathey, her daughter Markita (Paul) Lerch, and her grandchildren Michael (Laura) Lerch, Katie (Tim) Founds, and Savannah Cathey.
Helen was an active member of the First Christian Church in Camden, San Jose, and in Hot Springs. She was known for her caring spirit, especially for feeding everyone wonderful and abundant meals. She will be missed.
Services will be held at 10:00AM Saturday, October 8th at Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs with visitation beginning at 9:00AM. Interment will be in Camden.
