Helen R. Gostola, 94 of Mishawaka, IN passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Sterling House in South Bend, IN. Born in South Bend, IN., in 1918 to Mihal and Veronika (Hollis) Horvath, preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl Joseph Gostola, Sr., a daughter, Debbie Maria Gostola, brothers Michael, Alex, Joseph, Steve, John, and Frank Horvath, 3 sisters, Veronica Fodrocy, Marie Tate and Rose Siebrecht. On January 21, 1939 Helen married Carl J. Gostola, Sr., at Our Lady of Hungry Church, in South Bend, IN. Surviving is daughter, Jessica (David) Spenner of Granger, IN and a son Carl J. (Kathryn) Gostola, Jr. of Chardon OH, grandchildren, David Spenner, Jennifer Spenner Kind of New York. Carl Joseph Gostola III of South Dakota, Cheryl Ann Badovick of Chardon, OH and 3 great grandchildren, Noah Lyle Badovick, Elijah Joseph Badovick, and Kaylynn Marie Kind. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Margie Horvath. Helen loved her little dog," Susie" and spent many of her years enjoying one another. Helen had her Beauty Shop in Granger, IN for 26 years. Helen was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and belonged to the St. Pius X Senior Group, Daughters of Isabella Notre Dame Circle#572, Mishawaka Fraternal Order of Ladies Auxiliary Eagles #2083, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Our Lady of Hungry Harvest House and Howard Park Euchre Club. Helen loved her fishing, bowling and playing Euchre. Helen also enjoyed dancing in many Hungarian Harvest Festivals in her early years. A Mass of Christian burial with Monsignor William Schooler officiating will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, September 5, 2013, with visitation one hour prior to the service at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Rd. Granger, IN. Private Entombment (family only) will follow the service at Highland Cemetery in South Bend. The family requested in lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Heartland Hospice or to St Pius X Catholic Church. Bubb Funeral Chapel assisted the family with the arrangements.
