Helen Sword, age 88, of Middletown, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Atrium Medical Center. She was born March 15, 1924 in Hamilton the daughter of Joe Barger and Nora (Messer) Barger. Helen was a loving mother, an avid reader and Cincinnati Reds fan. She is survived by one daughter, Anne (Kenny) Whisman of Camden; four sons, Larry (Christa) Sword of Carlisle, Joe Sword of Middletown, Curtis (Anna Shultz) Sword of Middletown, Daniel (Pamela Anderson) Sword of Franklin; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Josie Long of New Hampshire; and one brother, Calbert Barger of Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Sword in 2003; one son, Louie Sword; and one sister, Coralee Smith. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM, Monday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Woodside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 4555 Lake Forest Dr., #396, Cincinnati, OH 45242.
