Helena (Vebert) Lucas , 90, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Parkview Hospice. She had worked for Catholic Charities, volunteered for the Red Cross for over 25 years, and was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Helena's focus in life was her faith in God and love of family. She also enjoyed cooking, especially baking pies. She was one of 11 siblings, who all preceded her in death. Helena is survived by her sons, Robert A. (Suzanne) Lucas of Fort Wayne and Kenneth E. (Melana) Lucas of Alexandria; daughters Rita E. Hakel of Fort Wayne and Therese M. (Jerald) Tindell of Tellico Plains, TN; daughter- in- law, Patricia Lucas of Fort Wayne; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 3 great- great grandchildren; Helena was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob H. and Ada E. Vebert; husband, Paul A. Lucas; son, Paul J. Lucas; and son-in-law, Roy Hakel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 AM Monday at The Mother Theodore Guerin Chapel, adjacent to Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1122 S. Calhoun with Father Fernando Jimenez officiating. Calling at - D. O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Rd on Sunday, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm with a rosary at 4:45pm. Burial in St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Cemetery.
