COONTZ - Herbert Coontz, age 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951, died on December 31, 2011, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Colleen; son, Glenn and wife Jackie Coontz; and grandchildren, Casey Coontz, Kelly Alhona and her husband Derrick; two great grand children, Gabby and Faith Alhona. He is also survived by his brother, Rouford Coonts, Judy Coonts and family, sisters, Christine (Duane) Waters and family, Mary (Jack) Williams and family, sister-in-law, Bobbie and husband Gene Kelley, and their daughter Shannon (Chuck) Skinner and family. Herby was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia and Herbert, sisters Zela, Reva and Delma, his loved in-laws Cole and Lessie Ritchey, and his daughter, Linda (Coontz) Mosow. Herby was born in West Virginia and moved to New Mexico at an early age, living in White Rock and Espanola. He was a lifetime (58 years) member of the Operating Engineers, Local 953. Herby accepted Christ as his Savior. He was an early attendee of Hoffmantown Mission Chapel (1953), now Hoffmantown Church. Services and burial will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2012, 2:00 p.m., at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. The Coontz family would like to thank the Kelleys, Codys and O'Learys of Albuquerque, Coonts of Arizona, and Mathers of California for their love, prayers, and support during his illness. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and medical staff at Presbyterian for all the care through the years. If not for our friends and family, we could not have made this journey. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Children's Cancer Fund of NM, 112 14th St. SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. We will miss you Herby.
