Herbert Dale McCollum, 72, Salina, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004.
Mr. McCollum was born on June 29, 1932, in Salina. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a retired brick mason. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a past member of Saline County Bird Dog Association. He played semi-professional AAA baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals farm team and played and coached baseball in Salina. He enjoyed working his hunting dog and landscaping his garden.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Morrow-McCollum.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Hernandez-McCollum, of the home; two sons, Franklin McCollum of Lawrence and Eric McCollum of Norton; a daughter, Deborah Woodin of Salina; seven stepsons, Jim Morrow of Topeka, Kenneth Stephens of Newton, "Gene" Stephens of San Diego, Francis Hernandez of Napa, Calif., Tony Hernandez of Eugene, Ore., Victor Hernandez of Kansas City, Kan., and Adrian Hernandez of Vallejo, Calif.; and four stepdaughters, Paula Hernandez of Salina, Ramona Witt of Kansas City, Mo., Teresa Hernandez of Kansas City, Kan., and Rachel Barker of Napa, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, where family will receive friends.
