Herbert G. Preston August 10, 1914 ~ December 14, 2011 Graveside services for Herbert G. Preston, 97, of Somerville and a former resident of California, are set for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Pavilion of Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville under the auspices of Lee Scott Masonic Lodge No. 793 A.F. & A.M. of Somerville. Interment will follow in the Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon Saturday, December 17th at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Mr. Preston died Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Emergency Room of St. Joseph Regional Health Care Center in Bryan. Herbert G. Preston was born August 10, 1914 in Huntington Beach, California, the son of Guy Herbert and Florence (Moore) Preston. He graduated from High School in Huntington Beach in 1933. He worked as a Meat Grader for packing plants in California until his retirement in 1975. He was an honorable man in business and in life. He was known to be honest and to have a lot of integrity. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Somerville and a member of Lee Scott Masonic Lodge in Somerville. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Virginia Preston, who died in May 21, 2001. He is survived by his children, Donald Preston of Somerville and his daughter, Brenda Jean and her husband James Lerud of Grantsview, Indiana; his grandchildren, Reese and his wife Trista Preston of College Station, Shaun and his wife Melissa Preston of Somerville, Karen and her husband, Jeff MacIntosh, Bruce and his wife, Jeanette of Indiana; his great-grandchildren, Katlyn Preston, Bryan Lerud, Zoe Preston, and Wyatt Preston. Family members have requested that memorials be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas or to Lee Scott Masonic Lodge in Somerville.
