Herbert Rosner
“Opa”
Herbert Rosner “Opa” born January 31, 1926 died January 31, 2011. On the day of his death he was surrounded by his loving family. Our Opa received what he wanted most on his birthday, a new day with his loving wife and eldest son Herbie.
Opa was born in Haag Am Hausbruck, Austria. He spent the first part of his life in Austria where he helped his Father with his gravel business and eventually built a home and started his own family with his loving wife Gusti. Two sons, Herbert and Walter were born in Austria. In 1952 Opa decided that his future was across the ocean in America. He immigrated first to Canada leaving his wife and two sons in Austria. He was able to work and save the money necessary to bring his little family to Canada. They settled in Lethbridge, Alberta Canada where two more sons, Wilhelm and Peter and his daughter Gaby were born. In 1963 carried on a wing and a prayer he again moved his family to Salt Lake City, Utah. It was here that many memories were made and the lives of his children blossomed. Opa was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many positions. His labor of love for the Church was doing name extraction work. He translated an untold amount of documents that enabled many to have their temple work completed.
Opa was preceded in death by his parents and siblings along with his wife Auguste Steindl Rosner and his eldest son Herbert. He is survived by sons Walter (April), Bill (Patty), Pete, and daughter Gaby (Rod) Lowry. He is also survived by his fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 5th, 12:00 noon at the Highland 6th Ward, 10115 S. Yorkshire Dr. (approx. 4200 W.) South Jordan. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E. and one hour prior to services on Saturday. On-line condolences at www.memorialutah.com.
