HILDA ROTH was born on February 28, 1911, the second child of eleven to Christian and Julia (Hintz) Roth. She was born in the summer kitchen on her parent's farm, eighteen miles northwest of Elgin, ND. Hilda grew up there with her siblings and helped her parents doing all the necessary work in those days. She helped working the fields with horses, milking cows by hand and feeding the livestock the hard way.
On October 25th, 1931 Hilda and Ted Zimmerman were married and began their own farm and family. Their farm was eleven miles northwest of New Leipzig and there they raised eight children. Hilda was proud of having four sons and four daughters; four with brown eyes and four with blue. Just as she planned! Hilda was a country gal in everyway. She loved the outdoors, animals, flowers and vegetable gardening and going for long walks.
Hilda and Ted retired from farming and moved into New Leipzig in the fall of 1968. She loved to have a large garden and enjoyed doing crocheting. One of her favorite hobbies was repairing dolls and crocheting nice outfits for them. Hilda made many kuchens for the church booth for Oktoberfest in New Leipzig for many years. On March 3, 1974, Ted died and Hilda remained living in her home by herself for many years, still gardening, crocheting and walking. Hilda later lived at the Dakota Hills for six years, then entered the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin. She passed away at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin on Tuesday, October 23, 2007.
Grateful for having been a part of her life are her four sons, Milton (Sylvia), Plymouth, IN, Clifford (Arlene), Sidney, MT, Henry, of Albany, OR and Wilmer (Rosella), New Leipzig; her four daughters, Violet Schock, Elgin, Nelda (Emil) Kallis, New Leipzig, Delores (Alvin) Kreis, Glenn Ullin, ND and Eileen (Ronald) Will, Elgin; one brother, Paul (Phyllis) Roth, Elgin; one sister, Freda Bennett, Grandview, WA; sister-in-law, Barbara Kubischta, Dickinson, ND; 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren (2 'on the way') and one great-great grandchild.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted, sisters, Ida Klein, Esther Zimmerman and Louisa Hirning, brothers, Gottlieb, Clarence and Reinhold Roth, son-in-law, Reinhold Schock and daughter-in-law, Cecelia Zimmerman.
