Hillerd G. “Hilly” Kania, 88, of Bloomfield, beloved husband of Roberta Anne (Randall) Kania, passed away on Thursday, (September 11, 2008) at Kimberly Hall in Windsor. Born in Bridgeport, son of the late Anthony and Alexandra (Oszewski) Kania, he had lived in Bloomfield for the past 73 years. Hillerd was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and was employed as an automobile mechanic for Hartford Electric Light Company. Hillerd was a communicant of the former Christ the King Church and is now a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield. He was past commander of the Bloomfield VFW, past president of the former Algonquin Game Club, a member of the Wintonbury Historical Society, and was active years ago with the Bloomfield Little League and Boy Scouts. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott Kania and his wife Marjorie of Canton, and Stephen Kania and his wife Linda Frank of Powell, TN; two daughters, Mary and her husband Richard Laiuppa of Bloomfield, and Priscilla Kania of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Regina Grzybowski of Bloomfield. He was predeceased by two sisters, Katherine Fisher and Frances Lipski; and two brothers, Donald Kania and Makardy “Mickey” Kania (who also passed on September 11, 2008).
