Services to celebrate the life of Homer L. Robinett are scheduled for Wednesday, January 20, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 1420 Main, Lubbock, Texas, with Dr. Ted Dotts officiating. Born on February 14, 1949, in Borger, TX, he departed this life on January 13, 2010. Homer was the second child of W.L. and Loys Robinett and is survived by his sister, Adonna Robinett and her husband, Johnny Breeden of Abilene, TX; sister, Georganna Robinett and her husband, Dirk Murchison of Lubbock, TX; nephew, Lenwood Connelly and his children, Stephen and Samantha; niece, Misty Connelly and her children Christopher, Amanda and Amy; and great-great niece, Layla.

Homer graduated from high school in Lovington, NM, where he was active in baseball, basketball and Boy Scouts of America. Upon achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the governor of New Mexico recognized him as being the youngest Eagle Scout at that time in the state. At the time of his death, Homer was a member in good standing of Masonic Animas Lodge No. 15 in Farmington.

After service in the Navy and graduation from New Mexico State University, Homer began a 20-year law enforcement career, first in Amarillo and working later as a detective with the City of Farmington Police Department. His lifelong desire to help others led to a second career as a social worker and counselor. Graduating from New Mexico Highlands University with an MSW, he worked in Hobbs, Tucumcari and Clovis, first as director of Humphrey House, then later as the county office manager for Children Youth and Families Department of the State of New Mexico, and ended his professional career at Clovis Municipal Schools.

Homer’s passion, after being the best possible son, brother and friend, was life in the outdoors. Beginning as a young man, he hunted and fished all over the western United States. Making jokes, working hard at whatever needed to be accomplished, he loved God and all God’s creatures. His absolute belief in the positive always moved him forward to the next challenge in life, meeting each day with a smile.

The Robinett family particularly thanks the staff at Quailridge Alzheimer’s Care Center for their love and care of him and expresses gratitude and appreciation to Homer’s friends at Clovis Municipal Schools and CYF. To all his friends, dance partners and law enforcement colleagues in New Mexico, goodbye for now.

In accordance with Native American beliefs and following Homer’s personal creed, “All things are connected, Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth; Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.”
