Mr. Homer Walter Shaw, 87, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Wednesday December 15, 2010 at Brentwood Assisted Living in LaPorte. He was born December 15, 1923 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Homer Shaw and Rose (Ahrendt) Shaw. Homer worked in shipping at Allis-Chalmers for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of First Christian Church of LaPorte and was a charter member and past president of the Phi Delta Kappa. Veteran of the US Army during WW II in the European Theater. Homer was an avid fisherman on the local lakes. On April 29, 1949, in LaPorte, IN, he married Carolyn Routt Shaw who survives. He is also survived by his son - Ronald (Kim) Shaw of La Porte, IN; daughter - Penny (Gary) Huth of La Porte, IN; four grandchildren - Carolyn (Jim) Barbarossa of Valparaiso, IN, Briana Lee Shaw of Pueblo, CO, Grace (Jeff) Cifaldi of La Porte, IN, Lauren Adele Shaw of La Porte, IN; six great grandchildren - Jenna Cae Barbarossa, James Charles Barbarossa, Jr., Isaiah Jeffery Cifaldi, Janelle Caitlyn Barbarossa, Jaelyn Claire Barbarossa, and Elisabeth Grace Cifaldi. Homer was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Frances Wegiel, three brothers, Elbert Shaw, Walter Shaw, and Leon Shaw. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm & Friday, December 17, 2010 1:00, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday December 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Everett Shattuck officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of LaPorte 610 Maple Avenue LaPorte, IN 46350 or LaPorte Hospital Foundation.
