Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother Horace Larry Burton peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on February 7, 2012.
Larry was born June 13, 1926 in Parowan, Utah and was the oldest son of Horace Fish and Maude Hollingshead Burton. Having attended school in Kanab, he went to the aid of his country and joined the Navy. He served during WWII. He then served with the Guard unit of Spanish Fork with his two brothers as medics during the Korean War. Larry was very patriotic and loved the flag and his country.
Larry married his sweetheart, Geraldine (Geri) Curtis on May 31, 1947 in Evanston Wyoming. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. Larry graduated from BYU in education and went to work for Nebo School District as a teacher. He loved teaching and worked for Payson Jr. High for over 30 years. He was a well loved teacher, and many will remember the special way he influenced their lives.
Larry loved hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons. He was a great carpenter and could fix anything. Larry was active in the LDS church. He was a High Priest, and especially loved teaching Gospel Doctrine. He had a deep love of the scriptures and a strong testimony of the Gospel.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Geri, and his three children: Karen (Steve) Hancock, Payson; Curtis (Cathy) Burton, Payson; Cindy (Mike) Wignall, Manti. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and three siblings: Linda (Gene) McDonald, Dr. Ronald (Jacque) Burton, and Sue (Tom) Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Sherman, Carlyle, Robert Preston (Sonny), & JoAnn Burton.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Payson 11th Ward Chapel, 902 West 400 North Payson.
