Mr. Howard J. "Jew" "Kitty" Hamilton, 91, a resident of Elmcroft Assisted Living Center, Shippensburg, PA, died Saturday evening, January 14, 2012, at Cumberland Crossings Skilled Nursing Unit, Carlisle, PA. Born June 3, 1920, in Greencastle, PA he was the son of the late George and Mazzie (Roscoe) Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton spent his early life in Greencastle, but spent the majority of his life in Easton, PA. He attended Greencastle schools and later served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he served in the European Theater. Mr. Hamilton was first married to Zelda (Miley) Hamilton and later to Louise (Apgar White) Hamilton. Louise died December 18, 1987. He was employed by Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Stockertown, PA, for a number of years before retiring in 1988. Mr. Hamilton played baseball in his younger years and remained an avid baseball fan until his death. He is survived by his son, William "Bill" Hamilton, Mercersburg, PA; three sisters: Thelma Wells, Chambersburg, Katherine Elizabeth Robinson, Chambersburg, Lillian Miller, San Jose, CA; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Janet Warner and Olive May Hamilton; and three brothers: Lancelot "Lover" Roscoe, George W. Hamilton, and Henry Hamilton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 23, 2012, in Bethel A.M.E. Church, 235 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, with Pastor John Good officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the George W. Hamilton Endowment Fund. Arrangements: Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington Street, Greencastle, PA.
