MILLERSBURG - Howard John Lynde III, 57, of Millersburg PA, passed away on November 4th. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy Michaelian; his children Katherine (Katie) Lynde Shultz, Howard John Lynde IV, Nancy (Muffy) Lynde, and Jessica Lynde; his son-in-law Douglas Lynde Shultz; his mother Doris Lynde; and a close extended family. The only child of Howard and Doris Lynde, Howard grew up New Jersey. Howard earned a bachelor's degree from Susquehanna University, where he was a member of the football team, and a Master's degree from New Haven University. Howard found his calling in state and federal law enforcement and enjoyed long years of public service as a Connecticut State Trooper, a security specialist for Henry Kissinger, a Special Agent of the U.S. Department of State, and a narcotics investigator for the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. In retirement he worked for the Department of Homeland Security. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the Pennsylvania Longbow Association. Howard was a very social person, outgoing, expressive, and expansive. He was quick to make everyone he met feel comfortable and welcome. He delighted in his many friends and would do anything for them. He was in his element sitting by a campfire while surrounded by his friends, telling stories with the panache of a master story-teller. Howard loved anything to do with the outdoors: hunting, fishing, archery rendezvous, and his dogs. Above all Howard loved and cherished his family. His greatest joy was gathering his family at the kitchen table. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children. A worship service to celebrate Howard's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011, at Ridgeway Community Church of the Brethren, 525 North Progress Avenue, Harrisburg PA 17109. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name can be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1054 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601. Hoover – Boyer Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg is handling the arrangements. To sign the guestbook go to www.hbfuneralhomes.com.
