HUSMER, HOWARD LOUIS, age 94, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Elmcroft Senior Living, Albuquerque, New Mexico where he had resided and been well cared for these past two years. Howard is survived by his son – Dean Husmer of Albuquerque, his two daughters – Jill Richard and husband Ron of Atlanta, GA, Laurie Morris and husband Steve of Edwards, CO. He is also survived by eight grandchildren – Nick Morris from Denver, CO; Leslie Stockton from Tucson, AZ; Martin Morris from Albuquerque, NM; Reid Husmer from Denver, CO; Alison Shadburn from San Diego, CA; Jason Boes from Edwards, CO; Leslie Bailey from Denver, CO and Kurt Boes from Atlanta, GA plus 12, almost 14 great grand children. Howard was born April 7, 1917 in New Haven, CT, the second son of Emil and Sybil Husmer. He graduated from West Haven High School in 1934, and after subsequent post graduate studies he went to work for Pennsylvania Railroad. During the year of 1939 he was laid off and went to Venezuela to work in an oil refinery. In 1940 he returned to New York and The Pennsylvania Railroad and married the love of his life Dorothy Lawson in West Haven, CT. As a young man Howard was active in Demolay and in 1938 was initiated into the Annawon Lodge of Masons in West Haven, CT. Howard served in the United States Army, in the Army of Occupation, in Gorizia, Italy, from 1945-1947. During Howard's career with Pennsylvania Railroad, he worked in the New York office, the Boston office, the Chicago office and Houston office. While working out of the Boston office, he and his family lived in Amherst, NH where he was very involved in The Congregational Church where he served as a deacon. He also was the town auditor and on the library board. When Howard retired from Conrail in 1979, he and his wife Dorothy lived in Spring, TX and enjoyed their life golfing together at Willow Creek Golf Club. Dorothy died in 1987 and in 1991 Howard moved to Albuquerque, NM to be near two of his children. He joined Tanoan Golf Course and enjoyed many years of golf with family and friends. His family greatly appreciates the good care given to Howard by Dr. Christopher Merchant, Hospice of the Sandias and the employees of Elmcroft Senior Living. Howard's family will have a memorial service at a later date.
