Reams, Hugh E., 85, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Westminster Suncoast Health Center. He was born on October 6, 1924, the oldest of four to Dr. and Mrs. Glenn Reams in Toledo, Ohio. He was a graduate of the Webb School, Washington and Lee University, and Duke University School of Law. He was a naval officer during World War II, stationed in the Pacific Arena. He was a member of Scouts and Raiders which was the forerunner of the present day Navy SEALS. He married Louise Stacy in June, 1950 and the two of them made their home in Kingsport, Tennessee, where their two children, Hugh, Jr. and Jennifer were born. In 1958, Hugh and his family moved to St. Petersburg where he practiced law until he retired in 1995. During his legal career, he was President of the St. Petersburg Bar Association, the Pinellas County Trial Lawyers Association, and Gulfcoast Legal Services. He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and served the church in many different capacities. He was the attorney for the St. Petersburg district of the United Methodist Church and also was a member of the Bishop's legal advisory council. In the community, he served on the board of directors for Sunny Shores Villas (now Westminster Shores) for 36 years. Hugh is survived by his wife, Louise; his children, Hugh Reams, Jr. of Evanston, IL and Jennifer Sakiotis of St. Petersburg; his four grandchildren: Christopher, Kacy, and Amy Reams and Allison Sakiotis; two sisters: Caroline Miller, Canfield, OH and Mary Glenn Haskins, Perrysburg, OH. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 21st at 11:00AM at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 5995 Dr. M.L. King St. S., St. Petersburg, FL 33705. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westminster Suncoast Scholarship Fund, 6909 Dr. M.L. King St. S., St. Petersburg, FL 33705 or to Lakewood United Methodist Church.
