Ida Mae Jones Mc Kinney, 82, of Linden, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in Elizabeth. She was born in Enfield, North Carolina and lived in Newark before moving to Linden 35 years ago. Ida attended elementary and high school in Weldon, North Carolina and was a graduate of Fayetteville State Teachers College of North Carolina and Kean College in Union, New Jersey (Master's degree). She had attended many workshops in North Carolina, New Jersey, Washington, DC and Texas. She was a teacher for the Newark Board of Education for 34 years and was employed as a teacher for the Harriet Tubman Elementary School for 20 of those years, retiring in 1995. After retiring she was a school bus aide for Vogel Bus Company in Linden for 15 years. She served as Head Start Director and Teacher for the Linden Board of Education during the summer months. Ida Mae was a faithful member of Antioch African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Linden for 25 years. She was the secretary for the Quarterly Conference. She served on the Steward Board, Missionary Society, Class Leader, Superintendent and Teacher of the Sunday school. Ida was predeceased by her husband, Charles David Mc Kinney, Sr.; her children, "Baby" Charles Mc Kinney, Darryl, Michael, Deborah and Charles Mc Kinney, Jr. Surviving are two brothers, James Jones and Lloyd Jones, Sr. of Halifax, North Carolina; one sister, Margaret L. Henderson of Pennsylvania; 6 grandchildren: Tiffany, Adrienne, LaKesha, and Ankara Mc Kinney, Tiffany L. Johnson, and Selina Dudley; 6 great-grandchildren: Dawhan and Yaquasia Mc Kinney, Olivia Harris, Kassionah Ellison, Kelise Dudley-Brown, Danielle Johnson; one great-great grandchild: Elijah Mc Kinney and a host of relatives, friends and the Antioch AME Zion Church family.
