Inez Elvira Karlsson Dahlberg passed away peacefully on October 8, 2011 in South San Francisco, California. Inez was born to Gustaf Adolf Karlsson and Maria Kristina Olsson Karlsson on April 12, 1905 in the historical town of Bromsboro, Sweden.
At 106 years of age, Inez was the soul survivor out of seven children born into her family: Sigrid born in 1906, Malte born in 1909, Saga born in 1915, twins Karl & Anna Astrid Maria born in 1917 and Majken born in 1920.
Inez was predeceased by her husband Samuel and daughter Aina Butticci and is survived by her granddaughter Linda Buttici.
In 1925 at the age of 19 years old, Inez sailed on the M/S Stockholm Ship from Goteborg, Sweden to New York. She spent Christmas and New Year's on the ship. Inez arrived in San Francisco on January 10, 1925 to stay with her uncle Anders Enock Engdahl and Aunt Alma Olsson Engdahl. Inez met her handsome Swedish husband Samuel from Halland, Sweden in 1929. They were deeply devoted to each other for fifty-nine years. In 1933, their daughter, Aina was born.
Inez was an excellent Swedish gourmet cook, an efficient housekeeper and a wonderful, attentive person, always ready and eager to receive relatives and friends from Sweden. She also was a letter-writer who kept up communication with several of her family members in Sweden. Inez also enjoyed reading and writing poetry. She was passionate about her gardening and involved with her needlepoint, knitting and crocheting. Later on in years, she enjoyed doing advanced crossword puzzles and became an avid scrapbooker.
Inez was never known to say an unkind word about anyone and she had a wonderful ability to make everyone feel special. She always remembered everyone's birthday and holidays making sure that a special card (sometimes handmade) would be given.
Inez's Swedish heritage was so important to her that she was an anchor in several Swedish organizations including the Swedish Ladies Society and the Vasa Order of America.
When Inez celebrated her 100th birthday, she received birthday greetings from many dignitaries including the Consulate General of Sweden, Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Willard Scott from NBC's "Today Show."
Inez will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched - devoted relatives and friends both here in the United States as well as in Sweden.
Forever remembered. Forever missed and loved.
