Brattleboro- Ione B. Brunton, 89 of Meetinghouse Lane, died Wednesday afternoon, June 8, 2011 at Pine Heights Nursing Home following a brief illness. Mrs. Brunton was born in New York City on January 6, 1922 the daughter of Edwin and Hattie (Atkins) Buscelle. She was raised and educated in both New York and New Jersey later attending the Northfield, Mass School for Girls. For over 40 years she was involved with her husband's business, Guy R. Brunton Builders serving as bookkeeper. She was also a devoted homemaker whose life centered around her family. Active civically she was a member of the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, working the monthly blood drawings at the Elks and had been a volunteer at the Brattleboro Museum and Arts Center. She was a longtime member of Saint Michael's Episcopal Church where she was very active within the church. On July 21, 1942 in Hoosick Falls, New York she was married to Guy R. Brunton. Her husband of 64 years predeceased her on February 17, 2007. Survivors include two daughters, Anne Coughlin and her husband Ernest of El Dorado Hills, California, and Sally Brunton of Brattleboro, two grandchildren, Joshua Lynde and his wife Melissa of Spofford and Hillary Coughlin of Eldorado Hills. She also leaves nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Ralph, Edward, Russell and Walter Buscelle and one sister, Mae DeSand. The Mass of the Eucharist will be celebrated Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Saint Michael's Episcopal Church on Bradley Avenue. A reception will follow the services in the church's undercroft. Committal services and burial will take place at 5:00 P.M. Tuesday afternoon in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Monday from 7 to 9 P.M. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Brunton's name may be made to Rescue Inc., P.O. Box 593, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
