Irene Hoffman, 74, Bismarck, died December 22, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, December 29, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm Wednesday, December 28, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Irene was born on January 17, 1937, in Solen, ND, the daughter of Joe and Rose (Schmidt) Thomas. She was raised in Fallen, ND. Irene married Ben Hoffman on June 23, 1958 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Fallen, ND. To their union, five wonderful children were born. Irene worked at the Amvets Club in Bismarck since 1994. She enjoyed working at her job and with her fellow employees and she loved her many customers. Irene was a devoted member of Corpus Christi Church. She was employed at Corpus Christi Church since 1979, working in the kitchen and cleaning the parish house. She also volunteered many hours of her time ordering food, working in the kitchen, and organizing the receptions for funeral services. Irene enjoyed family gatherings and, along with food, brought much laughter to the table. She had a huge heart of hospitality. Everyone was welcome in her home and no one ever left her home hungry. Her positive attitude was a source of hope and she always had an encouraging word, no matter the circumstance. She was very energetic and always "on the go". She could walk circles around all of us! She had a very generous heart and lived life to its fullest. Her hobbies included playing bingo, reading, embroidering and gaining as many stuffed animals as she could from the quarter machines. Irene was very loved by many, old and young alike, and because of her accepting heart, it was easy to be her friend. Though she will be greatly missed, she will remain in our hearts forever. Irene is survived by her five children: three daughters and sons-in-law, Patty & Pierre Fillion of Mandan, ND, Shirley & Bruce Moser of McLaughlin, SD, and Sharon & Todd Rath of McClusky, ND; two sons, Ron Hoffman of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Doug Hoffman of Bismarck, ND; two brothers, Robert & Jeanette Thomas and Gene & Gladys Thomas; seven grandchildren, Tyler Fitterer, Arianne Skjeie, Tymera Hoffman, Shealyn Hoffman, Nicholas Hoffman, Kady Rath and Lucas Rath; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Darryl Thomas; and one sister, Delores Smith.
