Iris was born on March 5, 1934 and passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Iris was a resident of Stockton, California.
Iris was born in Deptford, London, UK . Her parents Albert Fleming and Maude Fleming and five siblings predecease her. Growing up in London during WWII she was evacuated with siblings twice during the war. She was reunited with her parents and family and survived the duration of the war with her family in Mottingham, London.
She met her husband, Staff Sergeant Gene Kohse, United States Air Force, who was stationed at Wethersfield AFB, Essex during the Korean War. They married in St. Andrews church in Mottingham, London. They lived in the picturesque English village of Finchingfield, Essex where swans still float in the village pond among thatched roof cottages. After the war ended she moved with her husband to the United States eventually settling in Stockton, CA.
She loved children, her family, and traveling. She eventually became a US citizen in 1980 because she wanted to vote in U.S. elections. She enjoyed charity work and lived her life as a pacifist and humanitarian. She was an active member of the British American Club in Stockton.
She is survived by her husband Gene Kohse of Stockton, CA; three children: Michele Kohse of Los Angeles, Elisa Rykert of Weaverville, CA, and Kristine Estrada of Stockton; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren; siblings in the UK; Roy Fleming, Kenneth Fleming and Barbara Syndercombe.
A private interment will take place at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, CA on October 14, 2011. Memorial Service and Luncheon will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 AM at Wine & Roses Restaurant on Turner Road in Lodi.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any donations be made to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke or NINDS in the name of Iris Kohse.
