Irwin "Buddy" Cohen, 89, a resident of Berkeley Heights since 1960, died on March 12, 2009. He had been ill since November2007, when he suffered a major stroke.

Mr. Cohen was born to Samuel Cohen and Matilda Wolfe Cohen on February 15, 1920 in Jersey City, NJ where he grew up. He graduated from P.S. 23, Dickinson H.S. and St. Peters College in Jersey City. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany.

Upon returning home in 1946, Mr. Cohen attended Columbia University graduate school in NYC and began a 39 year career as a chemist with national Starch and Chemical Corp. in Bridgewater. He was responsible for the research and development of resins and polymers used in the manufacture of personal care and household products. He retired as a Corporate VP in 1985.

He was a Cub Scout leader in Berkeley Heights for many years. After his retirement, he and Gloria worked as volunteers at Runnells Hospital in Berkeley Heights for 15 years.

Mr. Cohen is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Gloria Gerber Millson Cohen, and his immediate family. He was the father of David, Robert and Ellen Cohen, and a father to Linda Millson Baureis, Henry Millson and Glenn Millson. Other survivors include 7 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Mr. Cohen was pre-deceased by his loving first wife, Vera Flicker cohen, to whom he was married for 21 years until her death, his sister, Jacqueline Moskowitz, and his twin sister Paula Steinfink.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 2-4 PM in Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, NJ. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Atlantic Home Care and Hospice, 33 Bleeker St., Millburn, NJ 07041.
