Donald J. Brett

Donald J. Brett our beloved father left our arms but never our hearts on Monday, January 16, 2012. Born on January 23, 1928 in Bronx, New York, he entered the Navy at a young age and served his country in the Korean War. A life-long Tigers fan, he received a textile engineering degree from Clemson University and with his good looks, wit and charm, became a successful textile salesman for many years. His greatest love was for his family, as an avid hunter and fisherman, much of his life was spent creating many wonderful memories during those times. He is preceded in death by his wife and true love of 57 years, Joan A. Brett. He is survived by his sister Beverly Vila; four children; daughter Kerry Franklin(Ben III), and sons Dennis Brett (Debbie), Brian Brett (Suzanne) and Kevin Brett (Susan), along with ten granchildren, "Papa's" pride and joy; Justin, Christine, Amanda, Ben IV, Donna, Keith, Kate, Jordan, Brendan and Beth. Always a teacher at heart, no one escaped his desire to mentor and he will be sadly missed by the many people whose lives he touched. Visitation will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. accompanied by a reception in Sweeney Lounge.
