Mr. J. Richard O'Toole, 97, of 224 Philadelphia Ave., Waynesboro, died at 6:22 A.M., Monday, December 19, 2011, in the Waynesboro Hospital. Born October 17, 1914 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late William E. and Nelle Mae (Smith) O'Toole. He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area. Mr. O'Toole graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1934. He and his wife, the late Madolyn Burns (Conrad) O'Toole, were married on June 28, 1939 in St. Mary's Rectory in Hagerstown, MD. They moved to Philadelphia Ave. in 1952. Mrs. O'Toole died on May 3, 2002. Mr. O'Toole was a boring mill operator at Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro, retiring in 1981 after 35 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked at Routzahn's Department Store, Waynesboro, and was a carrier for the 1st National Bank of Waynesboro. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro; the Waynesboro Lions Club, where he served as President in 1979; and the National AARP. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2068, Waynesboro, where he held the 3rd Degree. Mr. O'Toole enjoyed woodworking. During his lifetime he made hundreds of toy cars which were donated through various local charities for children's Christmas presents. He is survived by one brother, Robert O'Toole of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon O'Toole and William E. O'Toole, Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 22, 2011, in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev. John Bateman officiating. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville. There will be no public viewing, however, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday morning in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA, 17202.
