Funeral services for Jac Crain, age 53, of Clarinda, Iowa, who died suddenly Sunday, February 19, 2012 as the result of a plane crash in rural Clarinda, Iowa, will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Hillside Missionary Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Hillside Missionary Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Midwest Opportunities. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on our website at, www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.

Jac Alan Crain was born September 2, 1958, at Clarinda, Iowa, to James G. Crain and Marilyn (Fulk) Crain. Jac grew up in the Clarinda area and attended Clarinda schools graduating from Clarinda High School in 1977. During high school, Jac was an active Cardinal student and athlete. He continued his education graduating from the Iowa Western Community College Mechanical Technology program and from Buena Vista College with a Bachelor of Science degree. Jac was united in marriage November 29, 1980 at Clarinda, Iowa to Marcy James. Jac and Marcy adopted their son, Blake from Lima, Peru in 1989.

Jac started his working career with Honeywell Corporation in Freeport, Illinois and with Rockford systems in Rockford, Illinois. He returned to Clarinda and worked with his father in the construction business and became owner and operator of the Crain Construction Company and Page Plumbing.

Jac was active in the community and was a member of the Clarinda Economic Development Committee, the Clarinda Country Club and the United Methodist Church Building Committee. He was also a member of the Wind Riders Experimental aircraft Club Chapter 1355. Jac had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed numerous activities including boating, bowling, flying, skydiving, scuba diving, NASCAR, sail boating, golfing, their lake house, traveling, designing his own home, yoga classes and he especially enjoyed being with friends and family.

Preceding Jac in death were his father, James G. Crain; sister, Candee Crain and nephew, Cole Stanton.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Marcy Crain of Clarinda, Iowa; son, Blake Crain of Creston, Iowa; mother, Marilyn Crain of Clarinda, Iowa; brother, Jay Dee Crain and wife Denise of Orange, California; sisters, Cindee Crain of San Diego, California and Cheri Crain of Clarinda, Iowa; parents-in-law, Ray and Martha James of Clarinda, Iowa; sister-in-law, Suzi Stanton and husband Jerry of Clarinda, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Abby and Josey Stanton and Chelsee and Chad Crain; aunts; uncles; cousins and many friends.

Jac had a great smile and zest for life and will be missed
by all but his memory will always live on in their hearts.
May God grant comfort, strength and peace to those who mourn his passing.
