GATES, Jack T. Sr., 88, of Clearwater, passed away Nov. 29, 2011.

Born in 1923, Jack was a lifetime resident of Clearwater. In 1935, at the age of 12, he joined the First United Methodist Church of Clearwater. As a longtime member of the Church, Jack served as an usher and a greeter and was a member of both the Finance and History Committees. Jack was a proud WWII Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the Black Cat Squadron VP-12.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hattie Mae Gates and is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eleanor D. Gates; children Pamela (Michael) Lutgen and Jack Thomas (Michele) Gates Jr.; grandchildren Matthew (Holley) Sinn, Mark Sinn, Catherine Marshburn, and Lisa (Chris) Marohnic; and sisters, Mae Adair and Bettye Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jack's life will be held at 12pm on Dec. 9th at the First United Methodist Church of Clearwater, 411 Turner Street, Clearwater 33756.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's memory to the First United Methodist Church's Mission Fund or Music Fund or to Woodside Hospice House.
