Jackie “Big Daddy” Carter Sr., 73, of Fort Wayne, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Born in Anderson, Jackie retired as a Supervisor with Kunkle Valve and had worked at Omnisec. He was a member of Greater Progressive Baptist. He loved his family, his work, and working outdoors. Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Beverly Carter; sons, Darrell (Nancy) Carter and Chris “Fred” (Sherese Jones) Carter; daughters, Stacy Carter-Brooks, Gwen “Dede” (Leonard) Harris, and Angela King; 18 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and sister, Juanita Minniefield. Jackie was preceded in death by his father, Slimons Carter; mother, Scottie Franklin; son, Jackie Carter Jr; three sisters and a brother. Service is 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Greater Progressive Baptist, 2215 John Street with calling an hour prior to service. Rev. Anthony Pettus officiating. Calling also from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm Monday at D.O. McComb and Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Ave. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens.
