Mr. Jackie Don Drum, 61, of Gastonia, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte. He was born June 25, 1948 in Gaston County, a son of the late Floyd Klutz and Margaret Jolly Drum. Jack was a graduate of Hunter Huss High School, and received his business and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following law school he was a clerk for Justice Frank Huskins of the NC Supreme Court. Jack began his practice of law with Berry, Bledsoe and Hogewood in Charlotte before joining NCNB (later NationsBank.) In 1993 he moved to Gastonia to form Garland and Drum with Jick Garland. In 2004, he joined Stott, Hollowell, Palmer and Windham, as a partner. Throughout his career, Jack was active with the NC Bar Association, Mecklenburg County Bar Association and the Gaston County Bar Association. Although by nature a private man, Jack was active in the community, serving on the boards of directors of the Off The Streets Program, the Hall Foundation, and Caroline Calouche & Co, of which he was the current president. He was active in the formation of and a volunteer for the Gastonia Downtown Development Corporation. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gastonia. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, who loved to cook and spend time with his best friend and wife, Ann. Survivors of Mr. Drum include his loving wife of more than 39 years, Ann Woody Drum of Gastonia; daughters, Danna Drum Hastings of Portland, OR; Emily Ann Drum of Brooklyn, NY; granddaughters, Ellie and Katie Hastings of Portland, OR; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Ann Drum of Gastonia; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Drum, and by his sister, Montie Drum Queen. A service to celebrate Jack's life will be held 2pm, Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Gastonia with Dr. James Westmoreland officiating. A reception will be held immediately after the service in the Family Life Center until 4:30pm. Interment will be private.
