Jackie Lee Toombs, Jr.

Jackie Lee Toombs, Jr., loving father, son, and brother, age 50, of Mt. Hope went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born January 28, 1961 at Fort Carson, CO, he is the son of Jackie Lee Toombs, Sr. of Oak Hill and Elizabeth Hurt Toombs of Mt. Hope.
Jack was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Alfred Hurt, Sr. and Opal Williams Hurt; paternal grandparents, Glucia Toombs and Estelle Toombs; infant brother Anthony Ray Toombs; and brother-in-law, Kirk Thomas.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents; seven children, Cherie Dixon and fiancé, Julio Torres, Jack and wife, Crystal, also Heaven, Angel, Skyler, Orlando, and Ethan Toombs; five grandchildren, Abigail Bobbitt, Chandler, and Jayda Dixon, Job Toombs, and Kaylee; one brother, Jon Toombs; three sisters, Teresa Bonifacio, Elizabeth Perdue and husband, David, and Susan Thomas; he is also survived by nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Jack was a 1979 graduate of Mt. Hope High School where he participated in football and was on the 1979 AA Track and Field State Championship Team. Jack enlisted in the US Army after high school being first trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky and was in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC. Later he graduated from Bluefield State College with degrees in Criminal Justice and Education. Jack was a teacher in Raleigh and Fayette County Schools. His last teaching position was in Mt. Hope Schools where he had coached track for many years. He was currently employed by Cramer Security. Jack was loved very much by his family and friends. He will be remembered as a wonderful and caring father.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Gary Williams officiating. Following the services Jack will be laid to rest at Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.
Friends may gather with the family Friday from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
