Jaehoon Ahn, 70, of Sandbridge Beach, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Born in Pyongyang, Korea, Jaehoon was employed as the founding director of Radio Free Asia's Korean Service in Washington, D.C. from 1997 - 2004, and as a librarian and an online editor for The Washington Post from 1969 1996. He also served on the Editorial Board of the Joong-Ang Ilbo Newspaper in Seoul, Korea from 1996 - 1997. He was a member of the Korean United Methodist Church of Greater Washington and served on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Committee for Human Rights in North Korea. Jaehoon is survived by his wife, Soonhoon Lee Ahn; two daughters, Soomie Lee Ahn of Manila, Philippines and Yoomie Lee Ahn of Richmond, VA; four sisters; one brother; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
