James Clayton Douglas, age 73, of Murfreesboro, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at his residence. A native of Rutherford County, he retired from the U. S Postal Service as a mail carrier after 37 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict and was a member of Living Word Tabernacle.

Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lydia Robinson Douglas, a brother, Richard Douglas and sisters, Mary Smotherman, Clara bell Smotherman and Linda Travis. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cornelia Alcorn Douglas of Murfreesboro; sons James C. (Valerie) Douglas, Jr., Alvin Douglas, Calvin Douglas, Joseph Douglas and John Douglas all of Murfreesboro; daughter Shirley Douglas of Murfreesboro; brothers Leonard Douglas, Jr., Bobby (Louise) Douglas and Mack (Hazel) Douglas all of the Link Community and Melvin Douglas, Willie Douglas and Chester Douglas all of Christiana; sisters Betty Batey of Barfield, Freda (Jessie) Haney and Joan (Calvin) Faulk of Christiana; grandchildren, Jeremy & Jimmy Douglas, Jennifer Richardson, Marchetta Odom and Jalissa Douglas..

Funeral service for Mr. Douglas will be 12:00 noon Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Bro. Joseph Hamid officiating and burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jennings and Ayers, 820 S. Church St. Murfreesboro, TN (615) 893-2422
