MILLERSBURG- James Douglas Thorne, 76, of Millersburg, passed away peacefully July 16, surrounded by loved ones. Born June 30, 1935, Jim was a 1952 graduate of Aurora High School. He is survived by Dawn Thorne, his lifelong love and partner in marriage for 53 years; his son James Thorne, husband of Becky, and their children Dakota and Tyler; his daughter Sonya Ritter, wife of Scott, and their children Justin, Allison, and Jonathan Hunsberger; and his daughter Penny Swift, wife of Dave, and their children Carly and David. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Bill, John and Paul, and 2 sisters, Margaret and Rosanne. He went to join a granddaughter, Baby Girl Thorne, a sister, Dolores Swecker, and his parents, Harold Douglas and Mary Virginia Thorne in heaven. Jim is lovingly remembered by his family, friends, neighbors and church congregation as a man of enduring faith, integrity, justice, humor, and devotion to Christ. He will be dearly missed. Celebrations of Remembrance will be held at Fearnot Assembly of God, 1152 West Mountain Rd., Hegins, PA 17938, on Friday July 22 from 6-8 pm and Saturday July 23 at 10 am, with a memorial and scripture reading at 11 am. Lunch will be provided following Saturday's memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Jim Thorne memorial fund set up at Fearnot Assembly of God (address as above), to be dispersed to charities that would honor Jim's convictions.
