James E. Moore Jr., 76, of Stuart, FL died April 19, 2011 at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and had been a resident of Stuart since 2002, having moved from Cohasset, MA. James grew up in Long Island, graduating from Baldwin High School in 1952, where he played Varsity Basketball. He was a graduate of Yale University, class of 1956. After graduation he entered Officers Candidate School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served for 3 years as a Lieutenant. He started his career in financial services at Grace Bank in New York City, and closed out a 42 year career in Boston, MA retiring from Paine Webber (UBS).
James was a member of Stuart Florida Christian Science Church, the Ocean Club (IRP), the Stuart Yacht and Country Club, Downtown Boston Rotary Club and Hingham Tennis Club. He was very active in the Boys and Girls club of Martin County where he started the Youth Tennis Program. He also was involved with the Council on Aging, the 4 C’s and the Martin County Literacy program.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Barbara J. Moore of Stuart; brother, Dr. Robert Moore and his wife Erica of Clearwater; son, James E. Moore III and his wife Chambers of Louisville and their children, Jonesy and Theodore Moore, all of Louisville, KY; son, Peter H. Moore of Newtonville, MA and his wife, Anne Moore of MA; son, William Whittaker and his wife Amy and their children, William and Madaket Whittaker all of Stuart; and son, Robert Whittaker and his wife Krissy and their children, Jasmine and Amelie Whittaker all of East Montpelier, VT.
A Celebration of Life, Love and Tennis will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Ocean Club Pro Court. Breakfast at 8:30AM; Memorial Service at 9:00AM; and, Jim’s Round Robin at 10:00AM. The family has requested dress in Tennis Whites.
