James Emerson Gibbons, 84, of McDonough, GA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Dyer Gibbons, and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ilettie Gibbons, of McDonough, GA, his children Joanne and Tom Maples of Jonesboro, GA, Jim and Cindy Gibbons, of Sharpsburg, GA, Becky Hoffman of Jackson, GA, Diana Green of Riverdale, GA and Becky Shipp of Baker, FL. Mr. Gibbons was blessed with twenty-one grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a U.S. military veteran and a retiree from Delta Airlines in 1987 after 37 years of dedicated service. Mr. Gibbons was a lifelong member and leader of the Boy Scouts of America and a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church of McDonough. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, 992 Mt. Bethel Rd., McDonough, GA 30252 or Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Dr., McDonough, GA, 30253. Funeral service for Mr. Gibbons will be Friday, December 9, 2011 – 11:00 AM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with interment following at Forest Hill Memorial Gardens in Forest Park.
