James E. "Gene" Greathouse, age 78, of Russellville, died Monday, October 29, 2007 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. A son of the late Lonnie G. and Bertha Ellen Treadwell Greathouse, he was born July 9, 1929 in Dabney, Arkansas. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the American Legion and of First Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Don Greathouse; three sisters, Wilma Ferrell, Pearl Harton and Ruby Greathouse; and a granddaughter, Stephany Fincher. Survivors include his wife of nearly fifty-two years, Margaretta Greathouse; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Wannetta Greathouse; a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Steve Fincher of West Monroe, Louisiana; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Terrance Vessells of Lexa, Arkansas; five grandchildren: Lance Greathouse and his wife, Nicole, of Pottsville; Brett Greathouse of Atkins; Valerie Wolfe and her husband, Pete, of Russellville; and Sydney and Shelby Fincher, both of West Monroe; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 P.M. on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Billy Ellis. Burial will be in Zion Hill Cemetery in northern Pope County, by Shinn Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers will be Lance, Brett, Ronnie and James Greathouse, Gary Ferrell and Roger Harton. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Pendergraft, Danny Pendergraft, Kevin Elliott, Dick Martin, Bob Russell, Jessie Bennett, Ronnie Greer, Charlie Hightower, Dr. Donald Hill, Dr. Andy Henry and Dr. Jim Ed Brewer.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M., at the funeral home.

The family would like to express a special "thank you" to Arkansas Hospice and the 4th Floor Nurses and Aides at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.
