James Eugene Worrell Sr. 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday (June 5, 2011) surrounded by his loving family. His beloved wife, June Worrell, predeceased him in 1981. Jim was born in Hot Springs, AR on October 20, 1929. He lived most of his life in West Hartford. He served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force in World War II and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. He was also involved in testing of the Atomic Bomb. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Hillyer College (currently the University of Hartford). Jim was a self-made man from humble beginnings, who became successful in the insurance industry. He was a pioneer in the development of no fault insurance and worked at Aetna Insurance Co. for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family and loved to go out to restaurants, and going down to the Connecticut Shoreline. Jim will be dearly missed by his two children, Sharon (Worrell) Riley of West Hartford and James Worrell Jr. of Temple, TX, his daughter in law, Doris Worrell, his grandchildren, James Worrell III, Ryan T. Riley, and Kelly Curley and her husband Michael, his great grandson, Thomas Curley and other friends and family. A memorial service including military honors will be held at Fairview Cemetery 200 Whitman Ave. in West Hartford on Thursday June 9, 2011 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Hartford Police Officers' Association 103 Raymond Road, West Hartford, CT 06107. Molloy Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
