James Harold (Jim) Scott, 81 of Moline, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave, Moline. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1330 – 13th Street, Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, Illinois or Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois.
Jim was born August 30, 1930 in Moline, to Harold W. and Marguerite O. (Enburg) Scott. He graduated from Moline High School in 1948 and Augustana College in 1953, having played basketball for both schools. At Augustana he was a member of the Tribe of Vikings and Phi Omega Phi fraternity. Jim married Ruth Ann Hauberg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline on February 20, 1954.
Jim worked for John Deere for 32 years, starting as a Sales Trainee and retiring as Manager, Financial Services, East Moline Branch. During retirement Jim remained very closely associated with John Deere by serving as a director of the Corporation of Retired Employees and as a tour guide at John Deere Harvester Works, John Deere Davenport Works, John Deere Collector Center, and the John Deere Pavilion.
Jim earned his Eagle Scout award in 1947 and was a member of the Camp Mansur staff. He was president of the Moline School Board and president of Moline Rotary. Jim served on the Church Councils of First Lutheran Church of Decorah, IA, First Lutheran Church of Decatur, IL and Trinity Lutheran Church of Moline, IL as well as the Northern Illinois Synod Council of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. He was a member of the Augustana Historical Society, Moline Historical Preservation Commission, Antique Automobile Club of America, Trinity Church Men, Moline Viking Club and Moline Center Partners. Jim was a very loyal member and president of the Moline Basketball "M" Men; organized the 50th and 75th Anniversary celebrations for Wharton Field House and very regularly enjoyed cheering for the Moline Maroons and Augustana Vikings.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, children; Steven (Mary Jo) Scott, Sue (Ted) Buckles, Tom (Theresa) Scott, all of Moline, David (Amy) Scott, McKinney, Texas and Diane (Michael) Vyzral, St. Charles, Illinois, 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and his sister Peggy Griffith, North Canton, Ohio.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
