James Jervey Bennett was born in Trial, South Carolina to the late Mattie Johnson Bennett and Peter Bennett. Jervey grew up in South Carolina and later moved to Cross where he met and married Ollie Ladson. Jervey accepted Christ as a young man and was a member of Unity Church, South Carolina. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He later moved to New Jersey where he raised his family; and became a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church. He worked at the Ford Motor Company as a Master Mechanic until his retirement. Shortly thereafter he relocated to North Carolina. As a resident of North Carolina he was an active member and color guard for the local chapter of the American Legion. He was an avid storyteller and would tell historical events regarding World War II and Jim Crow South. His stories would make you wonder. He loved to fish, which prompt his purchased of a retirement home near the water. He loved to travel and visit family and friends; which became his true passion. Jervey kept it moving! Moving around he did, driving up and down the east coast until just recently when he became ill. Jervey was preceded in death by his wife Ollie Bennett; his brothers Joe, Haywood, and Roosevelt. His sisters Annie President, Daisy Butler, Emma Jones, Mary Simmons, Rebecca Wilson, and Eloise Bradley. His daughter Naomi Johnson, and his son Edward Broughton. He is survived by his sister Charlotte Broughton, his brothers Henry Peter and Levi. His daughters Mariah Athenias, Emma Stephenson, Ruth, Margie Harrison, Barbara, Patricia Gundy and Lorai Brackett. His sons Leon Jones, James Jr., Michael, and Charles. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, relatives and friends. James Jervey Bennett, a brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend to many who frequently spoke of "The Good Master" will be deeply missed.
