James' life began on October 17, 1943 in Austin, Texas. He was the only son of the late Major and Margaret Brown. James' mother died giving birth to him. He was raised by his grandmother Ms. Cora Brown who preceded him in death. James attended the Austin public schools: Rosewood Elementary and Kealing Jr. High Schools. In 1962 he joined the U. S. Army and served for seven years and fought in the Vietnam War. After leaving the service, he took on the family's business, The Brown's Roofing Company, overseeing it for many years. He also ran several night clubs: The Untouchables Lounge along with his life time brother David Houston and Eden Rock Night Club in Manor, Texas. James was married in his early days to the late Bobbi Deary (Brown) of Thorndale, Texas. Later he joined with Maxine Beaudain of Texas City, Texas. To this union his one and only child was born, Margaret Soloman in LaMarque, Texas. James' life ended May 19, 2011. To cherish his memories he leaves behind his daughter Margaret "Nicey" Solomon; step daughter Ann Nelson-Lawhorn, both of Austin, Texas; his step sons, Kenneth "Pokey" Deary of Taylor, Mitchell Stewart and Alfred Solomon of Galveston, Texas; six grandchildren, Ashley Brown, Takisha, Amoni, Roy Lee, Roi'Neisha and Aalayah, all of Austin, Texas; life time brothers and sister, Evelyn Houston, David Houston, both of Austin, Texas, Robert (Pam) Houston of Houston, Texas, Larry Houston of Salt Lake City, Utah, and JB (Sandra) of Dallas, Texas; life time friend Maxine Beaudain of Austin, Texas; special friend Dorine Harris of Austin, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends.
