James McCloud, Jr. (affectionately known by most as Puggie) was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway, New Jersey. He was one of nine children, born on January 13, 1948, in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late James, Sr. and Ollie McLeod. He graduated from Linden High School in 1966. He was the Lead All Star player who led the team to the State Basketball finals in 1966. His outstanding basketball skills won him a full scholarship to college where he played the forward and center positions. In 1968 he received an Associate's Degree from Ranger Jr. College and in 1971 he received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from West Texas State University. While there he played in the finals of the N.I.T. in Madison Square Garden. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. In 1978, he married Patricia Davis and they were blessed with a daughter, Lindsey. After college, he worked as a salesman for Phillip Morris, Inc. and later became a Territory Division Manager for White Hall Products. He counseled emotionally disturbed children for the Linden school system. After making a career change, he worked for Kodak Polychrome Corporation for 19 years. In 2008, after becoming ill, he retired from United State Gypsum in Clark, New Jersey. Although he no longer was active in sports, he loved watching them on television and going to the local high school and college games. In 2007, he received the honor of being one of the first to be inducted into the Linden Athletic Hall of Fame and has been a faithful contributor toward their scholarship program. He also enjoyed participating in the New Jersey Lottery. Jim loved working outside in the yard, planting his vegetable garden and maintaining the grass. He was a warm and friendly person, and could be seen chatting with the neighbors about sports. He also had a sense of humor that would have you laughing. He was loved and adored by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Lindsey Ponchatta Tiffany McCloud; devoted fiancée, Valarie Campbell; three sisters, Arline Carson (Coley) of Linden, Dorothy Capers, and Deloise Julius (Maymon) of Rahway; five brothers, Donald (Linda) of Carteret, Dennis of Newark, Ricky (Marva) of Elizabeth, Kevin (Sonya) of Ocoee, Florida, and Kenny of Edison; one grandchild, Kortni Renee Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors. This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of James McCloud, Jr. You are invited to add a Tribute in his memory.
