James Nicholas Day

Passed away quietly on January 27, 2012. Born in Reyno, Arkansas, on November 8, 1921, Jim grew up with a loving family, his father, D. D. Day, his
mother, Paula Richardson, and his older brother, Richard (Dick) Day. At home, they always called him Bud. Jim was a devoted father to his children, Nick Day and wife Barbara, Steve Day and wife Judy, Donna Bell and husband Dennis, David Day and wife Jan. His nine grandchildren loved their "Grandad" - Nick Day III and wife Lisa, Doug Day and wife Jennifer, Jamie Bell Lawson and husband David, Jennifer Day McClelland and husband Jim, Nathan Day, Tiffany Bell Hernandez and husband David, Stuart Bell and wife Amber, Kathleen Day Federspiel and husband Jeff, Katie Day Sughrue and husband Ben, Meghan Day, and Emma Day. Jim was also blessed with nineteen great-grandchildren (so far). Jim grew up in Arkansas, for the most part, although his family moved to other states as his father's job with the Murray Company took him to Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee. He graduated from Memphis Central High School. After serving in the army for four years in World War II, Jim was attending Georgia Tech when he met his wife, Hazel Johnson. They were wed a month later on July 4, 1946. Their marriage lasted until her death in 1985. Like his father and brother, Jim was a long time employee of the Murray Company which sent him and Hazel to Dallas in 1952. They were members of Cochran Chapel Methodist Church until he moved to Allen, Texas, in 1986. He met and married Doris West Day in 1989. They spent the majority of their life together in McKinney, Texas, until Doris's death in April, 2011. Jim loved to hunt and fish from an early age. He looked forward to dove and deer season every year, hunting with his father and brother, and later, with his sons and grandsons. He was an athelete his entire life - playing football and baseball, bowling, golfing, and dancing. James Nicholas Day went by many names to his family - Jim, Bud, Daddy, Grandad, Uncle Bud, and Uncle Jim. We will all miss him very much, but we know he is happy in our mother's embrace, watched over by his Lord and Savior.
