James Paul Farley, 89 of Martinsville VA formerly of Midway, WV passed away at Blue Ridge Manor on Friday September 23, 2011.
Paul was born December 31, 1921 in Whitby WV to Henley Taylor Farley and Della Blaine Farley. He served with an armored division of the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Front. Paul worked as a coal miner for over 35 years mostly with Eastern Associated Coal at the Affinity, Stotesbury and Helen Mines.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years Myrtle Bolen Farley, second wife Luella Wills Farley and his sisters Amma Bragg and Reva Lilly.
Paul was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father and grandfather. During his lifetime he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, attending dirt track races and Nascar Races. He was of the Primitive Baptist Faith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son Larry Paul Farley and wife Patty of Leland NC., a daughter Carolyn McVey and husband Roy of Collinsville Va. Five grandchildren; Glen (wife Sherri) Farley of Greensboro NC, Beth (husband Bob) Hamon of Wilmington NC, Jeffrey (wife Marti) McVey of Waynesboro VA, Cheryl (husband Phil) Lewis of Wilmington NC, and Benjamin McVey of Basset VA. Nine great-grandchildren; Adam Farley, Brooks Hamon, Grace Hamon, Will McVey, Lilly McVey, Sydney Lewis and Savannah Lewis, Cody McVey and Emily McVey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 26, 2011, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. Roy A. McVey officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, WV.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Bolen, Dale Bolen, Glen Farley, Jeffrey McVey, and Benjamin McVey
Friends may gather with the family on Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
