James Pinkney "Rink" Queen, 74, of Conover, passed away September 29, 2012 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Sherrills Ford. Mr. Queen was born November 28, 1937 in Catawba County to the late John Queen and Clara B. Brown Queen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert J. Queen and Cecil J. Queen, two sisters; Lottie "Sis" Eckard and Norma Q. Earley and a number of nieces and nephews. He was a member of Millers Lutheran Church, served in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from Paul Eckard Roofing. Survivors include his wife; Faye Barbour Queen of the home, two daughters; Lisa S. Morgan and husband Steve of Conover and Melanie Queen Phillis and husband Jason of Hickory, a son; Robert Anthony "Tony" Queen and wife Tayloire of Cary, granddaughters; Heather Shook and Hannah Shook both of Conover, grandsons; Clayton Max Morgan of Conover, John Anthony "JAQ" Queen, James Patrick "Pat" Queen and Carson Caleb Queen all of Cary, a great grandson; Jaxson Turner Shook of Conover. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. prior to the service at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #48 of Hickory. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton N.C. 28658. Family would like to extend their appreciation to all the loving staff of Hospice, they made our difficult time much easier. Bass-Smith Funeral Home & Crematory in Hickory is serving the family of James Pinkney "Rink" Queen.
